Video Games at Work – Stress Relief or Productivity Killer?
According to a survey completed by PopCap Games, 24 percent of the 2,842 who participated in the survey indicated they play video games while on the job. A blog post by Ben Kuchera on ArsTechnica further elaborated on the statisticcs gleaned from the survey as follows:
- 53% fo those who play video games at work indicated that they play at work at least once a day
- 79% said they play video games at work “several times a week or more”
- 84% said they play at work for an average of between 15 minutes and one hour, while 11% admit to playing video games for more than an hour every day
Another interesting result from the survey is that almost half – 48 percent – who admitted to playing video games at work are in supervisory positions.
The benefits of playing video games at work? According to participants, 84% of those who partake in the practice claimed that at-work game playing reduced their stress levels, while 52% claimed that the activity helped them to feel “more productive”.
